Joey Feek Thanks God For ‘Last’ Snowfall After Emotional Breakdown

Joey + Rory’s Joey Feek continues to amaze us with her strength and faith. Throughout her battle with stage 4 cervical cancer, the singer has remained positive and has always managed to somehow find light through these tough times.

Her husband, Rory Feek, shared another emotional update with fans this morning via his blog, This Life I Live. He wrote about the moment that Joey, 40, was reminded that she won’t always be around for their 21-month-old daughter, Indiana, who has Down syndrome.

This moment came after Joey saw a photo of Indiana’s best friend, Scout. “Like our Indiana, Scout is very special,” Rory wrote. “She was born with something called Loeys-Dietz syndrome, a connective-tissue disorder that affects her heart and a thousand other things. Unlike Indy, Scouty has been in and out of hospitals and surgeries since the day she was born.”

After seeing a photo of Scout riding a horse at a camp in Kentucky, Joey lost it. “Then suddenly her hands started shaking and she closed her eyes and started sobbing,” he recalled. It was that moment that the realization set in for Joey. “’I want to raise our baby,’ she cried, and her tears fell harder… ‘I want to be the one to teach her.'”

Rory held her although she was “inconsolable.” Then, they noticed something special happening outside the window…Snow.

“’I didn’t think I’d get to see snow again.’ And she looked at me, then raised her eyes up at sky and said, ‘if this is the last snow I ever see, thank you Jesus… thank you.'”

The snow continued to fall. “God sent us just what we needed… just when we needed it. He always does,” Rory wrote.

He went outside to capture what might be Joey’s last snowfall. The video, which features the song “It Is Well with My Soul,” is from the couple’s upcoming album of hymns, out this Valentine’s Day. Proceeds from the release will benefit the Loeys-Dietz Syndrome Foundation in honor of Indiana’s friend Scout.

“Joey’s album,” he wrote, referring to the upcoming release. “The one she’s always wanted to make – filled with the hymns she grew up with. We recorded it in a studio in Nashville early in the summer – just after recovering from her first big surgery in Chicago. And then she did her vocals where she could … in hotel rooms, our house, wherever and whenever she felt up to singing.”

The finished product will be a gift to everyone. “I think she wants to capture this music so we can take it home with us. All of us. And have it forever.”

Joey remains in hospice care. Our thoughts and prayers are with her and the entire Feek family.
