Joey + Rory Release New Album, Reveal Plans For Valentine’s Day, The Grammys & Daughter’s Birthday

It’s a big week for Joey + Rory.

On top of releasing their new album, Hymns That Are Important to Us, the couple is also preparing to celebrate Valentine’s Day, watch the GRAMMYs, and celebrate their daughter’s second birthday.

The Feeks had a chance to look at the album, which is available now at Cracker Barrel stores across the country, together yesterday, and Rory recalled those moments in a blog this morning. “I loved watching Joey looking, reading… holding one this last dream of hers in her hands,” he wrote on This Life I Live. To go along with the album, the couple taped a one-hour special together last fall, and just one day after the taping, they learned the terrible news that Joey’s cancer had returned and that no further treatment could be done. Fans can view the special in its entirety HERE.

Joey and Rory

Joey and Rory shared their first date fourteen years ago on Valentine’s Day, so it’s an extra special holiday for the couple. To celebrate, Rory is planning to have a special date night with his bride. While he would love to share this night at their farm house back in Tennessee, he knows that’s no longer possible.

“So my hope this year instead is to hold her hand and take her on a ‘virtual’ walk down memory lane together…with pictures and videos on my laptop,” he wrote. “I want to take her back to where our lives first began together, and relive this beautiful journey that God has taken us on… from that first song she heard me sing at the Bluebird cafe, to the last one we sang together as we stood on stage and took our final bow… to the songs that she will leave behind here on earth and the ones she will soon sing for eternity to our sweet Lord in that heavenly choir up yonder.”

Rory went on to share an update on his bride’s illness, revealing that it “hasn’t allowed her to be able to eat much of anything for some time now and she sleeps most of the days and nights away.”

Despite her worsening condition, Joey + Rory plan to celebrate their GRAMMY nomination by watching the show from home. Their daughters, Heidi and Hope, and their manager, Aaron, made the trip to L.A. to represent the duo, should they take home the GRAMMY Award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for “If I Needed You.”

Although Joey booked Rory on a flight to attend the show, he insisted on staying by her side. “I can’t leave her. I won’t. I have done many foolish things and made lots of mistakes in my life, but this isn’t going to be one of them,” he insisted. “Instead, I will be sitting beside her and cheering on Little Big Town, and Blake Shelton and Charles [Kelley] and all the talented folks who are nominated in our category and others.”

The pair will wrap up their big week with a second birthday celebration for their daughter, Indiana. Joey may not be able to get out of bed, but she won’t have to miss her baby girl’s party.

“Our plan is to put streamers up around Joey’s bed and move Indiana’s high-chair in beside her, so Joey can be part of it,” Rory explained. “So she can watch our little-one eat her cupcake and rip the wrapping paper off her gifts.”

“But Joey is very fragile right now,” he added. “And so with all of these plans we have, we will need to adjust for what my wife needs.”
