The second week of Dancing With the Stars was a salute to the Big Apple as the star-studded lineup of dancers performed tributes to New York City.

John Schneider performed early in the evening, taking on the Charleston. In a video package played before his dance the Dukes of Hazzard actor struggled with learning the complex moves of the iconic dance. His struggles didn’t carry over to the live performance, though, and Schneider knocked his dance out of the park.

Fans in the audience couldn’t help but stand for a long-lasting ovation after he and his partner Emma Slater concluded the musical number, inspired by Grand Central Station. The judges praised Schneider’s dance skills, telling him he’d grown leaps and bounds from the week before. Judge Bruno Tonioli called the performance a “first-class ride” and praised his musical-inspired showmanship.

“That was fantastic. That was… it was so polished and professional. Everything about it made me feel like I was watching a show on Broadway. You were so polished and so clean,” added Carrie Ann Inaba. “You have great showmanship. You are the greatest showman.”

Added Len Goodman, “I must say you’re on the right track. It was a great improvement on last week so that’s the first thing. I would have liked a little more Charleston going on in there. I did see it… but as a number and as a performance, it was terrific. Well done.”

The performance earned the pair a 23 out of 30, a much improved score from their first-week total of 18.

The  final dance of the night came from Bobby Bones and his partner Sharna Burgess. The radio talk show host and professional dancer combined forces for a Foxtrot to Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York.” The polished performance had Bones gliding across the floor, though he truly let his personality shine with an impromptu change in choreography to include the “floss.” After clarifying that it was, in fact, not part of Burgess’ original choreography, the judges shared their comments on the entertaining number.

“What I love about you… okay, you’re still a little rough around the edges, but you’re so authentically joyous when you dance. It’s contagious. This is about performing and entertaining, and it’s just amazing,” said Inaba, with Goodman adding, “It was full of youthful exuberance. It’s not the most elegant foxtrot I’ve ever seen, but what I love about you, you come out and you give it all you’ve got and you sell it.”

“It was so brilliantly bonkers, darling,” concluded Tonioli. “You can’t help yourself but to have fun ’cause you never know what you’re going to do next. I mean, with the flossing? On Dancing with the Stars?”

Bones and Burgess ended with a 20 out of 30.

Dancing With the Stars will honor Las Vegas on Tuesday, Oct. 2. Catch Bones and Schneider on ABC at 8 p.m. EST.
