One of this year’s standout wedding songs has unexpectedly been Jon Pardi’s hit “Head Over Boots.” The song chronicles a man’s desire to sweep a woman her off her feet by spinning her around the dance floor.

“I wanna sweep you off your feet tonight / I wanna love you and hold you tight / Spin you around on some old dance floor / Act like we never met before for fun,” he sings as the track begins.

Since releasing the song to country radio, numerous couples have chosen “Head Over Boots” as their wedding song, which is something the singer holds dear to his heart.

“People love love songs. They’re easy to write. They’re fun. It makes everybody feel good,” explained Jon. “I meet a lot of people who have ‘Head Over Boots’ as their wedding song, or they walk down to the aisle to it or ‘That was the song after I got married after we were leaving the aisle together we played ‘Head Over Boots.’’ It’s like that’s really cool.”

It’s no surprise that folks take to the dance floor when they hear the tune penned by the California native and fellow songwriter Luke Laird. The singer came up with the idea for the song when he was at home in Texas and watched couples dancing at a local bar.

“I was down in San Antonio, Texas at my dad’s house and we were out at an old dance hall. And I was kind of watching everybody dance to listen to a kind of a Texas shuffle down there,” he told Sounds Like Nashville. “I’m just trying to have us a beer and the next morning woke up and had a cup of coffee and I sat down and started strumming on the guitar and coming up with that melody of ‘Head over Boots.’”

“The first three lines that I had were ‘I wanna sweep you off your feet tonight,” he continued. “I wanna love you and hold you tight. Spin you around on some old dance floor’ and I started singing the melody and with dummy lyrics. I brought that back to Luke Laird and we kind of sat down and we came up with ‘Head Over Boots’ and it kind of became this whole love story. So it’s kind of built around this sort of love song you can dance to.”

“Head Over Boots” is the lead single from Pardi’s latest album, California Sunrise.
