As someone who grew up in a small, rural community out in the middle of California, Jon Pardi has definitely seen the immediate effects that smoking has on a person and stresses to fight against it in a new PSA.

Teaming up with Truth to advocate against tobacco, Pardi represents and stands up for the low-income areas that constantly get targeted by the addictive industry. A number of individuals in the one-minute clip discuss how advertisers for cigarettes and other similar products market directly toward these communities by claiming they are less educated.

“Just because they see you that doesn’t mean you have to be that way,” Pardi proclaims in the advertisement.

The lead singer of the rock band Imagine Dragons also weighs in on his thoughts regarding the tobacco industry and their improper marketing plan toward the lower-class folk, stating that he doesn’t agree at all with their motives or tactics for making money.

“They’re looking for people who are in a tough spot. That, to me, is as low as it gets,” singer Dan Reynolds said in a matter of fact tone.

The announcement also lets viewers know that “Big Tobacco designed their products to be more addictive by engineering tobacco plants with two times the natural levels of nicotine and lowers the cost of cigarettes so consumers can spend less and smoke more,” giving way to manipulate those who may not be able to afford much.

When he’s not promoting the Truth movement against smoking, fans can find Pardi on stage for the Livin’ Like Hippies Tour with Miranda Lambert. Information about dates and tickets for his sets can be found on his official website.
