How terrifying! Josh Abbott of the Josh Abbott Band had a near-death experience over the weekend. The singer posted about the ordeal in a note to fans on Twitter to tell them why he had to cancel his Saturday night show in Las Vegas.

“Currently in the hospital. I called one of those hydrate IV guys to come set me up a few hours ago… Everything was fine w/ the saline and vitamins, and then towards the end he added glutathione,” he wrote. “Well it turns out I’m DEALTHY ALLERGIC to it and my asthma kicked in. It got real bad real quick. Couldn’t breath. I thought I was seriously about to die. EMS was worried I’d go into cardiac arrest. Got a nice fancy ride in an ambulance on a stretcher. Crazy… I can’t even explain to you how bad it got but I’m grateful to be here. It was that bad.”

Due to his allergic reaction, Abbott’s throat remained swollen for several hours. He shared an update with fans just three hours later.

“UPDATE: checking out of ER. Diagnosis is Anaphylaxis. Feeling a lot better but throat is really swollen! Thanks for the prayers & messages,” he tweeted.

After another hour, the Texas native looked on the bright side of things by posting a Game of Thrones gif, saying “Me 7 hours ago.”

We’re happy to hear that Abbott is on the mend after such a scary ordeal! The band’s next scheduled date is for July 28 in Memphis, TN at the WC Handy Performing Arts Park.
