Jump aboard the disco train because Kacey Musgraves is throwing it way back to the psychedelic era of metallics and sequins galore in her anthem, “High Horse.”

Musgraves points the finger toward any and all arrogant characters that believe they ride above everyone around them throughout the cheeky lyric that settles the idea of cockiness. Bucking off the concept of being a self-absorbed individual, the country singer boogies down to the groovy beat while hoping to gallop away the haughty members of society.

Although country elements from an acoustic guitar to authentic lyrical content play a role in Musgraves’ latest track, she ultimately sought out inspiration from the iconic family band of the decade, the Bee Gees. Using their melodies as a guideline for the song’s sound, she created another dimension to the genre that expands the traditions of country to new horizons.

“I was on a huge Bee Gees kick whenever I was making this album and I was intrigued by the thought of a world where Bee Gees kind of meets country music,” Musgraves said in a video interview with Zane Lowe. “These days I only see music really as falling into two genres, good or bad.”

The tune marks the third song that Musgraves has sent out to fans for a sneak preview of what’s to come on her fourth record. She first broke down the introspective walls on her dreamy “Space Cowboy” before falling head over heels in love on “Butterflies.” Flirting with the lines of a multitude of genres, fans can only expect the unexpected for her anticipated album ahead.

“High Horse” will be one of the tracks featured on Musgraves’ upcoming release, Golden Hour, which will hit shelves on March 30.
