Kane Brown’s “Homesick” has an entirely new meaning after watching the heartwarming music video. Originally written to share his feelings about being away from his fiancee, Katelyn Jae, Brown changes things up by sharing the stories of those enlisted in the military coming home to see their families.

The video begins with a message reading, “This video is dedicated to the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces. Thank you to the California National Guard and to those who submitted their personal videos.” As the message dissipates, Brown is shown greeting members of the  California Army National Guard in a helicopter hanger.  The clip transitions into home movies of solders coming home to surprise their families after deployments.

Among the clips are shots of mothers, fathers, siblings, husbands, wives and more greeting their unsuspecting families. The emotion of the clip is driven home while Brown sings lyrics like “I’m homesick, This feeling that I’m feeling / No, it don’t quit, It’s like half of me is missing / Heaven knows it that all I wanna do Is be alone with your brown eyes all tangled up / Just holdin onto you tonight, Until the morning / Baby that’s the damn truth / If home is where the heart is Then I’m homesick for you.”

Brown has been an avid supporter of the military as his grandfather fought in the Army. He revealed to Taste of Country that he, too, would have enlisted if it hadn’t been for his disqualifying tattoos.

“Homesick” was co-written by Brown with Matt McGinn, Taylor Phillips and Brock Berryhill and appears on his upcoming sophomore album, Experiment, set for release on Nov. 9. He’ll take the tune out on the road for the remaining dates on Chris Young’s Losing Sleep World Tour.
