Thanks to the big digital support spread throughout the simplicity of a hashtag trend online, Keith Urban earned the title as the 2017 CMT Music Awards Social Superstar of the Year.

As involved as Urban is on their various social media accounts, they connect on another level with their fans with their crazy behind-the-scenes antics shown from the tour life to the home life. Honored by such a close-to-home award, Urban wanted to send a shout out to those fans who double-tap all those photos and replay their hilarious Snapchat stories.

“Thank you fans, ‘ville, just the audience, everyone who connects with this music,” Urban said while Blake Shelton, the previous winner who presented the award, interrupted with “I love you on Twitter Keith!”

“I love you too Blake,” Urban continued with a laugh. “You guys for voting for this means everything and I gotta tell you, my wife will testify, that everything I do at home when I’m thinking about music, what I’m doing, putting on shows, I’m thinking about you guys, what you respond to what you like, it’s all about you. That’s why I go over and say hi to everybody. It’s why I do what I do.”

Other nominees in the online category included Kelsea Ballerini, Brett Eldredge, Jake Owen, Lauren Alaina and Thomas Rhett at the 2017 CMT Music Awards.

This special fan-voted award sponsored by Pepsi gives a unique take on the tallying process as fans could vocalize their choice for the #SocialSuperstar prize through Instagram and Twitter with the hashtag #CMTAwards before the artists’ individual tags like #VoteBrett, #VoteJake, #VoteKeith, #VoteKelsea, #VoteLauren or #VoteThomas.
