Keith Urban Teams Up With Graffiti Artist For Artistic Representation of ‘Graffiti U’

"Just the combination of everything, the way I felt about looking at it, I thought, ‘Yeah, that captures a lot of the spirit of the record,’” Urban explained in the video.

After naming his album, Graffiti U, Keith Urban wanted to understand what really goes into the process of making a piece of graffiti by working together with an artist by the name of Troy Duff.

For inspiration, Duff decided to just listen to Urban’s album instead and let his creative flow come out of him naturally rather than sketch a design ahead of time. The country star appreciated this approach, since that’s how he went into the recording process of his latest record and could relate to the steps.

“I don’t normally plan out my pieces too much. I like to go into it blindly and just be free. That’s the beauty of graffiti—it’s freedom of expression. There’s no right or wrong to it, so it’s whatever my interpretation is, that’s what I’m trying to get out to my visual audience,” Huff explained to Urban as the singer agreed in full to the idea.

Huff laid out some graphics over the piece, in which he called it “dropping the science” to really bring the artwork to life. Bringing together light shades of pinks and yellows and greens to emulate the brightness of Urban’s album, he felt as though he could identify Graffiti U to Huff’s work immediately.

“I love that it was a combination of colors, angling, perspective. I didn’t know what it said the first time I looked at it. Just the combination of everything, the way I felt about looking at it, I thought, ‘Yeah, that captures a lot of the spirit of the record,’” Urban explained upon the reveal of the graffiti.

Graffiti U is available everywhere now.
