Country fans were thrilled when they got to see one of their favorite artists, Keith Urban, sitting in the judge’s chair on American Idol. Unfortunately, his four-season run ended when the reality show ended in 2016. With the news of the Idol reboot in 2018, everyone is talking about who the new judges might be. Pop superstar Katy Perry has already been confirmed as a judge, but could Urban be coming back to reprise his role?

“Possibly,” the guitar slinger said in an interview with CMT. “Yeah, it’s music—that’s good! Music’s good.”

Urban would not confirm or deny whether there have been any meetings regarding a role for him on the show.

“There’s a lot of moving parts. That’s a good political answer, isn’t it?” he added.

Much like Urban, many of his peers are pursuing other endeavors, such as the restaurants being opened in downtown Nashville by Florida Georgia Line, Dierks Bentley, and Blake Shelton. While his fellow country stars try a hand at becoming restaurateurs, Urban isn’t quite sure he wants to follow in those footsteps.

“I’ve got a lot of things I want to do, but for me, it’s got to be music-centric. It’s just got to have a music connection,” Urban says.

Luckily, being an American Idol judge is a music-centered endeavor, so maybe coming back is in the books for him.

Keith Urban was recently the biggest winner at the 2017 CMT Music Awards. He took home the trophies for Video of the Year, Male Video of the Year, Social Superstar and Collaborative Video of the Year for “The Fighter” with Carrie Underwood.
