Kenny Chesney recently released the video for “Rich and Miserable” and the clip features actor John C. McGinley (Scrubs, Office Space) as a professor asking his students what makes them happy. The first three minutes of the six-minute clip acts as a college lecture where McGinley writes the words “Rich and Miserable” on the board and challenges the room to not wind up rich and miserable after graduation.

“Here’s the challenge. I want you to forget about whatever you think you will face outside of these doors. I want you to think about one thing. I want you to think about what you will give,” McGinley tells his students.

“What will you be willing to give to change the word miserable to joyful? What will you be so rich with that you will be willing to share it with the entire world?” he asks. “I want you to distill all that down to one word, come up here write it on the board and then walk out the door and then I want you to give it to the world.”

Chesney then enters and sings the song to an empty classroom. “We climb the ladder, but the ladder just grows… enough is never enough, American dream never wakes up. Too much is never too much. We won’t be happy until we’re rich and miserable,” Chesney sings.

“Rich and Miserable” is featured on Chesney’s latest album Cosmic Hallelujah. The thought-provoking track was written by Nashville hit-makers Jesse Frasure, Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne. Watch the video for the song above.
