Lady Antebellum Realizes the Importance of Putting Parenthood First

While music may be their career path, the members of Lady A have learned the healthy balance between their livelihood and their family time.

Over the past ten years as a band, Lady Antebellum has faced a number of life-changing events from weddings to babies to career accomplishments. Through the thick and thin, they still devote themselves first and foremost to their family life back at home.

With all three of the members sticking true to their roles as parents, they look up to their own moms and dads for guidance and support, as well as strategize the importance of their music career to that of staying with their families whenever they can make the time.

“God gave me permission or something. My dad for me, personally, was such a great musical role model and always there for all the important events for me growing up. And for us, as a band that travels, that’s always in the forefront of my mind. It’s made that a priority of moments that are important to be there for. And for any of our kids, as much as we can, to be there for those moments as well,” said Dave Haywood at a CMA Fest press conference.

Noting that the balance can somewhat feel as though they’re thrown off from a normal schedule, the country trio wouldn’t change their lives for anything, even if it means sacrificing one comfort for the other.

“Yeah, it’s funny to say that I’m a father. It makes me feel so grown up. As cliché as it sounds, it does move really fast. It feels like yesterday we were out doing solo club dates and he was three or four months old, sleeping through the night. Now that he’s 16 months old, he’s out here on this Lady Antebellum tour waking up in the middle of the night going, ‘Where the hell am I,’ and crying. It’s like, ‘Oh my gosh, we’ve got this whole new cycle of kid that’s very aware of where he is.’ It moves so fast, and we want to be present,” Charles Kelley of the band said.

Putting it all back in perspective is what leads the example for Lady A and they’ve never felt more excited for the future than they are now thanks to the strength of their loved ones and the steady adjustments along the way.

“We’ve learned how to balance it,” Kelley explained. “We might not always be the hottest thing in the world, but dadgum, we’re as happy as we’ve ever been.”

Lady Antebellum just released their album, Heart Break, which is available for purchase and streaming now.
