Not only did LANCO accomplish their dream of performing their first No. 1 hit on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, but they also checked meeting two of their acting idols off the bucket list while hanging out with Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks backstage.

In preparation for their daytime talk show performance of “Greatest Love Story,” LANCO just so happened to run into the iconic actors, who were there together to promote their film called The Post. Not wasting the special occasion, the group immediately struck up a conversation and Streep made hints at how cool working in the music industry must be.

“I met Meryl Streep and she was so, so nice and asked about the band and was like, ‘Oh that must be so fun being a musician, being in a band.’ So we talked for a while,” lead singer Brandon Lancaster revealed to Taste of Country Nights about the meet-up.

Hanks additionally told LANCO that he and his wife, Rita Wilson, love traveling to Music City when they get the chance and said he’s buy their single to hear what the band is all about.

“They’re in Nashville a lot and so we talked about music. He was really down to Earth. He did say he’d download our music, so there’s a sale,” Lancaster explained with a smile.

Of course, one of the band members waited too long to ask a silly Forrest Gump request of breaking out a little table tennis competition with Hanks himself. But even the thought of playing the casual sport against an entertainment legend didn’t cross their mind until later.

Forrest Gump is like by far my favorite movie and we were talking to him and as he left, I realized that the whole time that I had been meeting Tom Hanks I was leaning on a ping pong table and I was like ‘How did I not ask him to play,” guitarist Eric Steedly said.

LANCO then performed their track, “Greatest Love Story,” for the excited audience, and soaked up every minute of their backstage hijinks while hanging out at the Los Angeles studio lot.

LANCO’s debut album, Hallelujah Nights, is available now.
