As a fan of the country trio for most of her life, Alaina never felt more honored--or nervous--as she did when she laid down some vocals on one of their most recent album cuts.

When Lauren Alaina got the call about singing on one of Rascal Flatts’ new tracks, her childhood self freaked out a little inside.

As a self-proclaimed fan of the country trio, Alaina grew up belting out their biggest hits on karaoke and dreaming of the day that she could match up to lead singer Gary LeVox’s mind-blowing vocal range. When it actually came time to hit the studio and harmonize with his riffs, the “Road Less Traveled” singer felt her nerves on edge.

“I was so nervous. I actually flew into town to record that and flew out of town right after that, because I was on tour with Martina at the time, I think. I went in, and Gary wasn’t actually there. He had already recorded his part, so I had to hear him singing his part, which is very intimidating. He can sing. There’s no denying that. And it’s crazy the runs he does and stuff. And I’m just like… I was a little intimidated,” Alaina told Sounds Like Nashville and other media recently.

The tensions eased thanks to Alaina’s comical side and the rest is history. As heard on their song, “Are You Happy Now,” Alaina matches right up to LeVox as a commanding country voice. Even the guys of the group continue to support Alaina and she’s never felt more honored to be a part of a project like this.

“They were super encouraging to me, and now, I’ve seen a lot of the interviews that they’ve done, the things they’ve said about me, and it’s just made it even more special. Because, obviously, I knew that they liked my voice enough to put me on the song, but I didn’t know that they felt the way they feel about me,” Alaina said.

Alaina’s duet with Rascal Flatts, “Are You Happy Now,” can be found on their most recent release, Back to Us.
