Orange is the new black for Lindsay Ell as she spent her days in the slammer throughout the new music video for her song, “Criminal.”

She already knows how to break the law when it comes to shredding on those strings, but Ell traded in ripped jeans for a baggy jumpsuit after committing a crime of passion in the treatment. Sirens lit up her love even more when she tried to outrun the police while speeding away in a hot-wired getaway car.

Cell bars and barbwire fences couldn’t keep her apart from the idea of her man for too long though, as she maneuvered a way to rig the door open and pull a grand theft auto escape in a cop car away from the misery of the clink.

Ell also served some time in the headlines this week for reaching the No. 1 spot on the Canadian country charts. Thrilled to represent the best in the genre up in her native nation, Ell felt honored to earn such an accolade for her work.

“I am humbled and grateful to be the first female artist to have a #1 since 2008 on the Canadian country radio charts. Sometimes you work so hard for the things you want, they feel surreal when they happen. Thank you country radio for believing in me and making this possible. Thank you to each and every fan for never giving up on me. I will try my best to continue to make you proud,” she said.

“Criminal,” which holds a spot on the track list for The Project, is out everywhere now.
