Little Big Town Pays Tribute to Troy Gentry at the Ryman
Covering Montgomery Gentry's 2002 hit, "My Town," Little Big Town's one-of-a-kind harmonies were put on display for all to hear.
GRAMMY-winning quartet Little Big Town returned to the Ryman Auditorium on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 15 & 16) for the eighth and ninth shows of their unprecedented 10-show residency at the famed Nashville venue.
Keeping their show interesting and fresh each night, LBT took time to honor the late Troy Gentry of Montgomery Gentry on Saturday with a beautiful musical tribute.
Covering Montgomery Gentry’s 2002 hit, “My Town,” Little Big Town’s one-of-a-kind harmonies were put on display for all to hear. At the conclusion of the performance, Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Jimi Westbrook, and Phillip Sweet looked to the sky as if Gentry was smiling down on them from above.
In addition to honoring Gentry at the Ryman, the group also appeared at his public memorial service, held at the Grand Ole Opry on Thursday (Sept. 14), to perform “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Honoring Gentry’s love for the USA at the request of his wife Angie, LBT stunned with their pristine vocals during the emotional service.
Gentry died on September 8 in Medford, New Jersey after a helicopter he was riding in crashed before the duo’s concert at the Flying W Airport and Resort. The 50-year-old singer is survived by his wife Angie and daughters Taylor and Kaylee.
Later this month, Little Big Town will hop across the pond for a run of shows in the United Kingdom. The group will then return to Nashville to honor the legendary Kenny Rogers at his farewell concert on October 25.
