Strap on your cleats and tighten up that helmet because the 2018 football season is set to be a great one. Ahead of the official September NFL kickoff, production is already underway for Carrie Underwood’s return to the Sunday Night Football opening clip. To prepare fans for what’s sure to be a fabulous opening, Sunday Night Football executive producer Fred Gaudelli teased a photo from the set of the video shoot.
“Shooting the 2018 Sunday Night Football open with Carrie Underwood,” wrote Gaudelli with a photo of Underwood looking fierce in a black leather ensemble. Surrounding the Oklahoma native was a pack of powerful backup dancers looking ready to cheer for their favorite NFL teams.
2018 will mark Underwood’s sixth year as the voice for Sunday Night Football and not many details are known quite yet about what to expect. While she kicked off her partnership with the “Waiting All Day For Sunday Night” theme song, she then switched gears by re-writing her Miranda Lambert collaboration, “Somethin’ Bad,” into “Oh, Sunday Night.”
Being the voice for SNF is a dream come true for the singer, as she grew up watching the NFL.
“I love being the voice of Sunday Night Football because I grew up watching football…from birth. I’m from Oklahoma – we’re a football state. It’s just a part of the country that everybody has their teams and there’s such an energy about it. We would drive down to Dallas and watch the Cowboys play whenever we could. There’s just something about being at a live sporting event or watching it on TV. You have your favorites. They have their rivals. There’s an excitement to it that really, it’s unlike anything else, so being a small part of that is absolutely amazing,” Underwood said recently.
Her most recent football appearance was as part of Super Bowl LII, where the game began with a music video for her song “The Champion,” featuring Ludacris. The track was also featuring during the 2018 Winter Olympic games.
