Ever since Luke Bryan signed on for the television life, he deals with those long hours of filming by sipping on a cold one whenever he gets a free minute.

The singer traveled to New York to visit a few talk shows to promote the upcoming season of American Idol, and his appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan made him come clean about what he really stores in his sealed thermos. Host Ryan Seacrest exposed Bryan’s secret after a strenuous day on set while stuck in the hot seat, and Bryan couldn’t deny that he needed a taste of the good stuff to get him through.

“I had a beer. One beer. Hey, I figure all my fans drink beer and listen to me. I figure, I can sit back, have a beer, watch some contestants,” Bryan joked.

On the other hand, Kelly Ripa was most intrigued how Bryan transitioned from life on a peanut mill in the middle of nowhere Georgia to selling out shows across the country with his music. Surprisingly enough, Bryan pointed toward his experience in high school drama class that led him to follow his heart in the entertainment industry.

“You don’t know at the time when you’re doing that stuff that it’s setting you up to be prepared for [performing],” he explained. “I learned a lot of the ropes of show business being an 18-year-old kid putting those shows on. So it was a fun moment. At some point, I’ll go back to theater…no, probably not.”

Just like many anticipate the revival of American Idol, Bryan is just as thrilled to show viewers all of the talent they come across. He even admitted to how closely connected he feels to the contestants’ journeys and appreciates the dedication they put into their craft while performing for the judges.

The new season of American Idol airs on Sunday, March 11, at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
