Luke Bryan Celebrates Album Release Week With No. 1 Hit, ‘Light It Up’

After celebrating his big album release all week long in New York City, Luke Bryan finished off his busy release week schedule with the news of a new No. 1 hit with “Light It Up.”

Bryan made his rounds on talk shows and special events galore as his new album, What Makes You Country, was released to stores everywhere. After a slew of high profile media appearances and performances, the singer came out on the top of the Billboard Country Airplay Chart with “Light It Up” sitting pretty at No.1.

With the song’s message relating to so many millennial relationships out there that depend on the simple courtesy of a call or a text, Bryan represented the anxiety that goes into those digital connections in “Light It Up” by creating a build-up in the chorus like that of the rapid heartbeat that flutters within a person once they finally receive that special virtual message.

“You look at everybody, everybody is locked into their cell phones these days, their screen. They’re constantly jockeying between a million things on their phone, and so when you’re in limbo with your significant other and you’re fighting whatever – so many people break up, get back together, fight, argue, fall in love via text message and this guy is just waiting to see if this girl wants his love, and if she wants it just say, ‘Hey, just light it up.’ When your screen is dark and you see it light up and it’s got that text message you want on it, it’s a big deal. And I think we were able to really capture that anxiousness, that anxiety, going to bed with it by your pillow, lying there if it buzzes,” Bryan explained about the inspiration of the track.

This accolade marks Bryan’s 18th career No. 1, following up a sweep of singles beforehand such as “Fast” and “Huntin’, Fishin’ and Lovin’ Every Day.”.” “Light It Up” is the lead single off his new album, with many presumed singles coming to radio in 2018.
