Forget the juicy ham or glazed turkey—Luke Bryan treats his family to a chili dog feast on the night before Christmas.

The country singer described the day-long event of making the comfort food dinner while visiting the set of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday (Dec. 8). When Jimmy Fallon asked Bryan what goes on in his household during the holidays, the singer’s mind went straight toward the unconventional food option they go for now that they’ve begun to settle into their home of two years.

“I started a few years back, my mother and I, we kinda said, ‘Let’s do chili dogs on Christmas Eve.’ And my mother, it’s a thing because she wants to go shop like she’s turned it into an all-day event. It’s always been, ‘Luke, it’s 11. It’s time to go do our chili dog shopping.’ And she takes me to the grocery store and it’s her time to have with me and we buy all of the…she has this chili recipe that she spends so much time on it. Some of her cigarette ashes land in it,” Bryan joked during the taping.

Fallon also poked some fun at the title of Bryan’s latest album, What Makes You Country, and asked the Georgia native just that question. Landing right back to his Southern accent, Bryan noted that the characteristic somewhat gives that away off that bat.

“Listen to me talk! It’s pretty much…that’s the stamp right there! Right there on the forehead—he’s country. Especially when I’m walking around New York City and I’m like, ‘Uh, yeah, I’ll have the sketti.’ Not spaghetti,” he explained.

The two discussed a bit of American Idol news as well, with Bryan mentioning how shocked he is over all of the undiscovered talent that walks in to audition every day.

Fans of Bryan can pick up a copy of his new album, What Makes You Country, in stores or on digital retailers now.
