Although the new judges of the upcoming season of American Idol work hard as a group to find the next big talent, they allow themselves to let the fun and games take over every once in a while to lighten the mood.

Poking fun at Lionel Richie’s vintage ‘80s look complete with a curly hairdo and thick mustache, both Luke Bryan and Katy Perry swapped their normal getups for that to replicate their fellow judge. Richie didn’t think one bad thing of it; in fact, he got in on the joke by taking a picture with the dress-up pranksters.

“Trust me, you’re gonna want to tune in for @AmericanIdol,” Bryan wrote next to the funny post.

It’s been quite the bonding experience to bring together an eclectic group such as Bryan, Perry and Richie. While Richie adds that veteran status of being a music legend and Perry’s quirky pop persona, Bryan feels honored to represent the country genre for what it is and hone in on the more songwriting pieces he sees in each contestant.

“To be on this ride with them and to see how serious they take it and how important it is… It’s an undertaking and a challenge that, when I started saying my opinion on the first day and they started agreeing with it, I was like, ‘Hell yes, I’m gonna be okay. We’re on the same page.’ I was very flattered that I could come in and be the ole country boy voice,” Bryan said in a previous interview.

The revival of American Idol, starring Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and returning host Ryan Seacrest, begins on Sunday, March 11, at 8 p.m. EST and Monday, March 12, at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
