After bringing on some mighty anticipation to fans on social media the day before, Luke Bryan performed his new single, “Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset” on the season finale of American Idol Monday evening (May 21). The singer hinted at the single ahead of the show, but didn’t divulge what it would be until he stepped on stage that evening.

“Performing my new single on #AmericanIdol tonight,” he wrote on Twitter. “Which song do you think it’ll be? Tune in at 9/8c to find out.”

The nostalgic track featured on his What Makes You Country album has Bryan looking back on a young summer love. Written by Zach Crowell, Ryan Hurd and Chase McGill, “Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset” is the perfect summer anthem.

“Sunrise, sunburn, sunset, repeat / Moonlight, all night, crashin’ into me / Nothin’ll ever be easy as you and me / Tangled up and nowhere to be / Just sunrise, sunburn, sunset, repeat,” Bryan sings on the chorus.

Bryan seemed relieved to finally sing the song live. Following his performance of “Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset” on American Idol, he told the crowd, “Finally, I get to sing for you guys!” He then performed his most recent No. 1 hit, “Most People Are Good,” with AI contestant Gabby Barrett.

Bryan has a week off before he begins his What Makes You Country Tour XL Stadium Sized on May 31 at Toronto’s Rogers Centre.

“I’m excited to kick this summer tour off and get back in front of the fans,” Bryan says in a press release. “To think about the opportunity to also include 13 stadiums is unreal! This line up is going to have so much energy. Can’t wait!”
