Luke Combs has had a whirlwind ride over the past year. While the North Carolina native has spent many years working on his craft as an artist and songwriter, he recently found mainstream success when he signed with a major label and released his debut single, “Hurricane.” The song has been a longtime staple in Combs’ set over the years, but once it hit radio, it took off, landing the singer his first-ever No.1 song.

“I was actually at the songwriter’s fest in Key West when I found out,” Combs recalled to Sounds Like Nashville and other media about finding out he had a hit on his hands. “I was staying in a hotel right across from the Hemingway’s house there. I was sitting on my front porch, called my folks and told them… it was good, it was awesome, it was a lot of hard work culminating with us being here today.”

Combs celebrated the success of the track he penned with Taylor Phillips and Thomas Archer during a party held at Acme Feed & Seed in Nashville, TN. The singer was surrounded by family, friends and members of the country music community to honor the multi-week No.1 song. The celebration for his successes was something Combs had always hoped for, but never quite expected.

“I think you think a lot of things when you start. It’s like you move to town and you’re like, ‘I wanna get a record deal and all that stuff,’ and then you do and you’re like ‘I didn’t really think that was gonna happen,’” he shared. “I’m glad it did and obviously you could never expect your song to go number one but it did and so it’s awesome… and the album went number one. Now the second single is doing really well and so it’s a blessing.”

“Hurricane” is the lead single from Luke Combs’ debut album, This One’s For You. Currently, his follow-up, “When It Rains It Pours,” is climbing up the country radio charts.
