Mackenzie Bourg Puts Spin on ‘American Idol’ Judges’ Songs

In an American Idol first, hopeful Mackenzie Bourg put a unique twist on his audition when he combined songs from each of the judges.

The Louisiana native performed a medley of Keith Urban’s “Stupid Boy,” Harry Connick, Jr.’s “Come By Me,” Jennifer Lopez’s “Love Don’t Cost a Thing,” and Urban’s “Making Memories of Us.”

“First of all, I got to say this. You’re a smart son of a gun,” Connick said. “I thought it was charming. It was really sweet. You have a sort of quiet thing about you that was very interesting to watch.”

“I liked it very much too. Also the sound of your voice. I don’t know. There was something about it that was really pleasant to me,” Lopez said in agreement.

“I loved the first song. I loved the fourth song. The two in the middle, I don’t know. I’d never heard of them before,” Urban joked. “I thought it was really good. I loved your voice too. I really did. It was a good choice.”

Bourg cruised through to the next round, but will he make it past Hollywood Week? Watch Idol on Wednesdays and Thursdays to find out!
