Using her platform and her voice to empower women everywhere, Maren Morris holds as a strong proponent for the Time’s Up movement and hopes to spread the word even further.

After earning her first career No. 1 with “I Could Use a Love Song,” the singer embraced the accomplishment not only for the hard work she put into the track, but also what it represented for women in the country industry. Relating that back to the tidal wave of liberation for women in the entertainment industry by way of Time’s Up, Morris wishes for the change to remain a constant in order to boost other ladies up rather than tear them apart.

“Obviously, I am a huge backer of the Time’s Up movement,” Morris told Billboard during a recent interview. “I feel fortunate that in my own life I have not had huge problems. But don’t get me wrong, I have certainly had my own share of struggles over the years. You see stuff in the music industry too, and I think what is coming out of all these conversations is that it’s making people double-check themselves. That’s a good thing. I was emotional watching the Golden Globes and cried when Oprah spoke so eloquently.”

Morris also took the opportunity to build up fellow female artists like Kelsea Ballerini and Carly Pearce because she feels a solidarity with them to prove that females in country music can reign supreme alongside the men and even one another.

“Having ‘Love Song’ top the chart is such a big win to me and maybe it will help other women a little. What makes me the most happy is that it means that you can just be yourself, not compromise your art and still be successful at radio. I am hoping it’s not just a step forward for me, but for other female artists as well,” Morris championed.

Morris will lend her voice to a special tribute performance alongside Brothers Osborne and Eric Church at the 60th GRAMMY Awards, which air live on Sunday, January 28, at 7:30 p.m. EST on CBS.
