Sometimes, it takes a snip here and there to make a major change in one’s life. Maren Morris ditched her wavy long locks for just that reason, and she’s never felt more herself.

The ACM New Female Vocalist of the Year debuted her rocking new ‘do recently after playing around with a number of looks, including mermaid hair and the trendy lob. Opting for a layered asymmetrical bob hitting right at the chin, Morris admitted that her hair, or lack thereof, makes her feel stronger and more authentic than ever before.

“I love it. I honestly used to have short hair, so I feel really myself with it, but it was just time for a change,” Morris said to People. “I just love when girls rock short hair because they can’t hide behind anything. I feel more empowered with short hair.”

With summer quickly approaching, Morris thought a shorter cut would make for a more sensible time on the road. Rather than feeling the weight of her hair on her shoulders, she decided with her beauty team that chopping it was the best route to go for the road ahead.

“I didn’t want to cut it on a whim, so I definitely planned it with my hairdresser and we did it this week,” she said. “I felt good to be rid of it and we’re in the desert this week, so I didn’t want long hair down my back.”

Even boyfriend Ryan Hurd supported the change, calling the look “hot” as the couple strutted the ACM red carpet together hand in hand.

Morris will join Sam Hunt for his 15 in a 30 Tour over the summer. Fans can find more details on her website.
