It was an interesting Tuesday for Nashville citizens as the mayor, Megan Barry, resigned from her post after pleading guilty to felony charges of theft.

Months ago, it was confirmed that Barry had an affair with former police bodyguard Sgt. Robert Forrest since the spring of 2016. During that time, their romantic affiliations allegedly occurred on the clock and therefore, resulted in the theft of property from the Metro Nashville city funds amounted to $10,000 spent in the relationship.

When Barry pled guilty to the charges, the consequences came out where she would pay back $11,000 to the city, as well as resign from her position as Nashville’s mayor and agree to a three-year sentence of unsupervised probation.

As a supporter of Megan Barry’s work within her time in office, Maren Morris expressed her grief over the situation going on in Music City. The country singer even revealed that Barry kept her out of harm’s way from a stalker who followed her around in the area. Taking her words to social media, Morris sounded understanding yet upset about the breaking news.

“I get why it had to be this way, but I’m very sad Megan Barry is resigning. As the mayor of Music City, she always came to shows. Years ago, she and Sgt. Forrest helped me by taking care of a really terrifying stalker issue I had. I felt safer as an artist in Nashville,” Morris admitted via Twitter.

According to The Tennessean, Forrest has also pleaded guilty to theft of property over $10,000. He was also given three years probation and as a term of that probation, he is required to reimburse Nashville $45,000 paid to him as a salary.

Meanwhile, Morris continues to work on her sophomore album while she promotes her recent radio release with “Rich.”
