Merle Haggard’s legacy is living on through his music, but his name will host a brand new endeavor within the marijuana industry.

The country music icon had been developing a strain of marijuana leading up to his death in April of 2016 and it was been recently announced that the product will be hitting stores in Colorado soon. Haggard’s brand, Merle’s Girls, was continued following his passing by his daughter Jenessa Haggard-Bennett and her husband, Brian Bennett, who are taking charge in the marijuana business endeavor.

It is known that Haggard grew the plant for medical use on his California property and aided him in his later years in order to help him throughout his life on the road and health issues that fared his way.

The news of Haggard’s business plan in the marijuana business comes less than two years after he and fellow country legend Willie Nelson released a song called “It’s All Going to Pot.” The two created an album together, Django and Jimmie, with the single available for fans on April 20, or 4/20 in a most likely coincidental fashion.

In partnership with a company by the name of the Colorado Weed Co., Merle’s Girls will be sold for both recreational and medical uses on shelves in the Rocky Mountain state. No exact date has been given when the marijuana strains will be available for purchase to customers in the state. The company has designated plans, though, to extend the sale out to other legalized states such as Oregon and Washington following its release in Colorado.
