Days after celebrating his second No. 1 song “Think A Little Less” in Nashville, Michael Ray has released the lead single from his sophomore album. Titled “Get To You,” the powerful ballad was written by Abe Stoklasa and Pavel Dovgalyuk and details a man questioning why a girl keeps running away from his love. It’s a new side to the singer vocally, showcasing his beautiful falsetto on the chorus, and Ray recently told Sounds Like Nashville and other media that he’s been working hard to deliver the best vocals he can for his fans on his forthcoming project.

“I’m so fortunate to be able to end my debut album on a song like ‘Think A Little Less’ and be able to go into a second record,” he says. “To have a No. 1 song is a blessing and to be able to announce that I have two is mind blowing for me. So, I know how fortunate that we are but I know what comes with that and the next level you have to step it up to continue the momentum and continue the train going in the direction that we all want it to go to.”

Ray says he has grown immensely as an artist and as a person since he released his self-titled debut in 2015, which included previous No. 1 hit “Kiss You In the Morning,” and it is this growth that is showcased on “Get To You.”

“It’s different vocally,” he explains. “I’ve been working with a vocal coach in L.A. and we’ve been doing Skype sessions. I think I owe it to the fans. I owe it to them and I owe it to the songwriters and I owe it to my team to be the best that I can be and to step it up to the next level that this sophomore album needs to be. I feel like we’ve made that step.”

The singer released “Get To You” a day early for his fans and the music video has Ray in a car as he sings, fittingly, “I’m trying to get to you.” Struggling to understand why a girl is saying their relationship is over, Ray’s confusion over the breakup is evident within the song’s chorus.

“Why do you run away, run away from love / What the hell are you so scared of / You walk away when you’ve had enough of trying, of trying / Girl there’s always gonna be some pain / A little sunshine, a little rain / It doesn’t mean it ain’t worth it, babe / I’m trying, I’m trying to get to you,” he sings on the chorus.

Ray is working once again with producer Scott Hendricks for his sophomore album and reasons, “don’t fix anything that ain’t broke.”

“He’s a genius and he requires you to step up. I believe that you’ll see that in the new single,” he shares. “It goes to radio next month. We’re real excited for it.”

“Get To You” is currently available at iTunes and on digital streaming services. Details on Michael Ray’s sophomore album have yet to be revealed.
