Mike Fisher couldn’t stay away from the ice for too long as the former captain of the Nashville Predators is coming back to the NHL.

After announcing his retirement during the summer of 2017, Fisher decided to stick it out for one more run as he made the choice to return to the Preds for the remainder of their 2017-2018 season. As an official active member of the team, Fisher can play in any games coming up on the schedule until his contract expires at the end of the season.

The Nashville Predators even went to confirm the news via Twitter with a joking yet sincere message welcoming back their previous captain.

“SEE YOU AGAIN. Mike Fisher is ending his retirement and will play for the #Preds this season,” they wrote, quoting lyrics from Carrie Underwood, who also happens to be Fisher’s wife.

Fisher shocked fans by telling them he’d be hanging up his skates after a solid 17 years in the NHL. Especially leaving the best for last by leading his team to the Stanley Cup Final in 2017, he thought it would be the right time to tell the sport goodbye in order to spend more time with his family.

“I’m looking forward to a future that includes a lot more time with my family. Things change when you have kids and you have a family. They’ve supported me without question, and now it’s my turn to return the favor,” he wrote in an emotional goodbye letter just after he called it quits.

At this time, no word yet on if Fisher will extend his contract past the end of the season.

This is a developing story… stay tuned for updates as they come.
