The cast of Nashville just keeps getting bigger and bigger with the addition of Jen Richards to a new role in season five of the drama series.

Richards, who is transgender, will be tagging along to the regular cast in the debut season for CMT’s musical drama series. According to EW, Richards will be playing the role of a “tough but understanding physical therapist who helps a series regular through one of their most difficult challenges.”

While it is unknown which character Richards’ role will be helping out, it only leaves Nashville fans anxious over the cliffhanger ending that occurred in the last episode of season four.

Richards is the first-ever transgender character casted on the network and she will join new castmate Rhiannon Giddens as a performer.

The new season of Nashville premieres on CMT with a two-hour episode on January 5, with episodes streaming on Hulu the day after the season premiere airs.
