The new season of Nashville keeps growing in cast members with the addition of actress Bridgit Mendler to the regular character roles.

According to CMT, Mendler will be playing the role of Ashley Wilkenson, who happens to be a huge YouTube star who is on the brink of recording her first-ever album. Despite her gifted talent and headstrong personality, the character finds herself walled within her natural vulnerability due to her tremendous online spotlight.

Mendler has gotten previous television acting experience through her roles on the Disney Channel shows, Wizards of Waverly Place and Good Luck Charlie, as well as a part in NBC’s Undateable. She has also been involved in music through her career in entertainment, releasing her debut album back in 2012.

She will be joining the ranks of many other new additions to the television drama, including Jen Richards and Rhiannon Giddens. The network is still currently searching for an actor to play the character of Clay, who will also be a part of the show’s newest season.

Nashville is set to come back to television for its fifth season on January 5 for a two hour premiere on CMT, with episodes available on Hulu the following day.
