‘Nashville’ Recap: The Queen Of Country Is In Trouble

The battle against Edgehill records is on for Rayna James, but the fight might be a lot harder than anyone could have imagined.

With Scarlett (Clare Brown) now the new lead (and only) act of Highway 65, Rayna (Connie Britton) took a hardline with her new overlord, Jeff (Oliver Hudson). Without spoiling too much, she did a great job embarrassing him in front of the Edgehill’s big money investors. Her motives aren’t only to protect her own label. Let’s just say Deacon (Charles Esten) isn’t the only person who walked away from the last season’s rollover crash with a debilitating, career-jeopardizing injury.

Juliette was also in a battle, but with the same ol’ enemy – herself. The episode titled, “I Don’t Wanna Talk About It Now,” pretty much explained her demeanor 24/7. Her inability to trust thrust itself forward – leaving us all to wonder, “will she ever freakin’ learn?!”

Secrets gripped other characters too. Gunnar rode backseat to his talented friends – Scarlett and Will – and hides how hard it is to deal with his faded, brief stint of stardom. The thought of being a dad-to-be gripped Teddy (for now). And Deacon was at odds with the demons he tried to drink away.

The episode wasn’t full of a lot of twists-and-turns, but plenty of “Oh my God!” moments.

ABC’s Nashville returns next week on ABC at 10/9c.
