If the Nashies think they’ve seen everything in the past four seasons of the hit drama, Nashville, the next few episodes are about to blow their minds.

After airing the first hour of the two-hour premiere episode for season five of Nashville on CMT, the network decided to preview a bit of the drama set up for the beloved characters of the show with a brand new trailer. But with great changes comes even greater storylines.

[Spoiler alerts ahead.]

The trailer sums up and ties together many cliffhanger details that were left unknown at the end of the last season: for starters, Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere) is alive, but still down for the count as she was severely injured in a plane crash that left everyone dead except her. As she plans to recover from being temporarily, or possibly permanently, paralyzed, she deals with her demons alongside partner Avery Barkley (Jonathan Jackson) while they manage to raise their daughter together.

Rayna James (Connie Britton), on the other hand, loses touch with her artistic expression and wants to channel her rollercoaster relationship with Deacon Claybourne (Charles Esten) as a new album concept. While the two look to be at odds about the project, Rayna faces another threat in her career through the means of an intense stalker.

Gunnar Scott (Sam Palladio) and Scarlett O’Connor (Clare Bowen) continue to fight through their rocky relationship as both romantic and professional partners, facing pressures from their careers and personal lives. While Will Lexington (Chris Carmack) deals with remaining faithful in his on-going relationship, Maddie Conrad (Lennon Stella) struggles in the midst of young love with her first serious boyfriend as a teenager.

Fans can watch the extended trailer for season five of Nashville now and tune in to the two-hour premiere episode of the series’ new drama on Thursday, January 5, at 9 p.m. ET on CMT.
