New Dad Shay Mooney Has Diaper Duty Down to a Science
It sounds like Dan + Shay's Shay Mooney has this whole dad thing down already!
A baby changes everything, even for new parents Shay Mooney and fiancée Hannah Billingsley.
The couple recently welcomed son Asher James into the world in January, and their lives couldn’t have gotten any sweeter since adding the little bundle of joy to their family. From reading all of the classic childhood stories, to singing lullabies to him all the time, both Mooney and Billingsley have adapted well to the big change in their lives.
Although he’s still very young, Mooney still has plans to bring his son out on the road with him one day to teach him the ropes of life on tour.
“When he gets older and starts walking, we’ll take him out. Now, he wouldn’t remember going anyway, and him being around loud music at this age isn’t great. But we did get to take him to our show at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and walk him out on stage. It took me a long, long time to get on that Ryman stage so I think at 2 months he’s doing pretty good,” Mooney recently explained to People Magazine.

Both Billingsley and Mooney take on the roles of mom and dad very seriously, taking the time to appreciate every little moment with their precious gift. Mooney, though, takes the cake for being the best father ever as he admits he’s got diaper duty on lockdown.
“I’ve got diapers down,” revealed Mooney. “At first I didn’t think I’d be very good at it and thought I’d let Hannah take care of it. But I can do it in 10 seconds flat. You unlatch. You get the wipes, you get the diaper in hand, you pull it out, you wipe and make sure to put the new diaper on him — for obvious reasons — and then you wrap him up. It’s second nature to me now. And I haven’t been sprayed yet — I’m 100 percent.”
The couple, who got engaged back in August of 2016, never realized how much of a blessing Asher would be in their lives. Mooney even decided to take some time off songwriting with duo partner Dan Smyers to concentrate on his parenting.
While the couple still plans on having a fall wedding, they never know what will happen or how things will change as they want to keep devoting all their time and love on their son.
“It has been a huge change and the best change. You love each other a ton and then you have a kid and you never realize how much you could love something. It strengthens your love for each other, but it also just opens up this entire other deeper world of love that you never knew you could have,” he said.
