Nicole Kidman Says Keith Urban Was ‘Devastated’ by Her Bruises While Filming ‘Big Little Lies’

The TV business is a rough one, but musician Keith Urban isn’t letting that stop him from supporting his wife, Nicole Kidman, throughout the process of her physically-tolling role in the hit drama series, Big Little Lies.

The HBO series revolves around a quaint coastal California city, in which the community is tight-knit and everyone has their problems. As a crime is committed and secrets start to unravel, each of the female characters in the series let their lives unwind in somewhat detrimental ways, physically and emotionally. With Kidman playing the role of Celeste, her character faces the constraints of a psychosexual abusive relationship with her husband that feeds the mastermind of manipulation.

Noting that Kidman must perform despite her character’s tragically harmful situation, Urban never backs down as the loving husband at the end of the day after she faces the emotional work Kidman goes through for the show. In an interview with Vogue, Kidman admires Urban for standing by her during the difficult task she has of acting within this misunderstood character.

“I would go home at night sometimes and be in a lot of pain, and I had to take things like Advil because I was being thrown around physically. I was really bruised. At one point Keith was like, ‘I’m going to take a photo of your back because it’s covered in deep, massive bruises.’ He was devastated seeing it, but then he would say, ‘But I have an artist wife!’ He knows that’s how I work; I don’t even notice it half the time,” she explained to the magazine.

The couple has been married for almost 11 years, through all of the ups and downs both of them have faced within their professional and personal lives. And yet, Urban and Kidman still can’t keep their hands or eyes off each other at every event they attend together.

Urban is one of the top nominees at the 52nd Annual ACM Awards, which air on Sunday, April 2, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
