Although the guys of Old Dominion get to live out their rock-star dreams of touring and performing live to fans night after night, they still hold their titles of fathers and husbands close to their hearts.

Spending a lot of time away from their family could be hard for anyone traveling, but each of the members of Old Dominion make it work by keeping up with good communication and trying to be close to home as much as possible. But when they do finally have time to relax with their significant others and kids, it still takes a little time to transition back into a “normal” life.

“It is a bit of a double life that we lead. We call it re-entry, when we come back into home it’s like re-entering the atmosphere and you come back in and you are no longer the rock-star, you’re just dad. Which is a very nice thing to come home to. Honestly, it’s very humbling to come in and have to fix breakfast and get everybody’s lunch packed and get them out the door and take them to school. It’s a very nice thing and it’s a great way to just remember that you are a real person and not everybody cares that you have a guitar and sing songs. It’s really the best thing you could ever do is be a dad,” said lead singer Matthew Ramsey.

The group trades their guitars and microphones for packed lunches and school runs, but both roles fulfill them in separate ways. Balance is the key in their lives, and they manage to do it quite well while still striving toward success within the country genre.

Old Dominion’s current single, “No Such Thing as a Broken Heart,” is playing on country radio now.
