Album covers usually feature a photo of the artist or a dreamy landscape, which is why Old Dominion fans were curious as to why the band’s cover artwork for their Top 20 single “No Such Thing as a Broken Heart” features Sasquatch. The Sasquatch joke even found its way into the band’s retro music video for the single.

That’s right, Bigfoot, the urban legend. What’s up with that? There is actually a simple answer.

“Our manager hit us up and he said, ‘We need the single artwork, like today. We have to turn it in.’ And we were like, ‘Man, not much notice.’ And he said, ‘Do you just want to use a picture of you guys?’ And we said, ‘No, No,” said band member Trevor Rosen.

So what did they do instead?

“I grabbed a napkin and a Sharpie, and I drew the Sasquatch with a broken heart, and I kind of set it on the bus and I didn’t say anything about,” Rosen explained.

Rosen was not being entirely serious, so he did not formally present his doodle to the rest of the band as the solution for their problem. However, his artwork caught the attention of fellow band member Matt Ramsey.

“Matt came walking off the bus holding it and he goes, ‘I get it.. Sasquatch… no such thing…’ he says, ‘I actually think this is awesome, I want to use this.’ And so we were laughing and he had his tattoo girl do a little bit better version of it and so that ended up being the single artwork,” Rosen said.

There is no such thing as a Sasquatch, just like there is “No Such Thing as a Broken Heart.” While it may be a little silly, it does make perfect sense.

“No Such Thing as a Broken Heart” will be featured on Old Dominion’s upcoming sophomore album, Happy Endings, available August 25.
