Since launching her headlining The Storyteller Tour – Stories in the Round in January, Carrie Underwood has played to more than 800,000 fans, proving that her show is one of this year’s hottest tickets. The Storyteller Tour is Underwood’s biggest and best yet, boasting incredible production, a one-of-a-kind stage design, and a setlist that brings the superstar’s biggest hits to life.

Sounds Like Nashville was there when The Storyteller Tour rolled into Indianapolis where we were given behind-the-scenes access to Underwood as well as her tourmates, Easton Corbin and The Swon Brothers.

Before taking the stage to a packed Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Underwood sat down with SLN inside her dressing room to give us all the details on her wildly successful tour.

“It is a big production, but it just has its moments,” the CMA Entertainer of the Year nominee tells us. “It has its ebbs and flows. It has bigger, ya know, there’s a lot going on, and it has its moments where there’s nothing going on, from a production standpoint.”

For example, her feisty performance of “Cowboy Cassanova,” where the Oklahoma native rises above the crowd on a jukebox sprouting pyrotechnics, or the show-stopping “Something in the Water,” which showcases lasers and confetti that create a visually stunning moment. Things slow down a bit when the Grammy-winner performs an a cappella version of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You,” demonstrating that her vocals alone are enough to captivate a crowd.

One of the things that makes this show so unique is her 360° stage, which allows her to get even closer to her fans.

“It’s a little more interactive and I feel like I can see everybody, which is really cool about being in the round,” she explains. “We’ve always tried, in previous tours, to get me out to the people that I wouldn’t necessarily see otherwise from one end of the arena, but I see everybody…It’s really amazing how I can find different groups of people just to be like, ‘oh my gosh, you’re so into this right now,” giving me energy and hopefully, I’m just giving it right back.”

Underwood has a new travel companion on the road this year, her 19-month-old son, Isaiah. The “Dirty Laundry” singer admits that having a toddler on the road comes with it’s challenges, but she wouldn’t trade it for the world.

“It’s definitely different having a toddler out on the road,” she says with a smile. “He’s always there and sometimes things might take a little longer, for me to like get ready because he’s just everywhere. But it’s great too, just being able to spend all day with him. It’s a juggling act. Being a parent is my most important job. Balancing. I can’t put either one on pause. It all collides and it’s all a big mess, but it’s all wonderful.”
