Pistol Annies ‘Forced’ Their Way On ‘The Hunger Games’ Soundtrack

The Hunger Games’ soundtrack is shadowing the popularity of the movie itself – both are holding the number 1 spot since their release. A solid mix of all genres, it has its fair share of country. But The Pistol Annies weren’t even supposed to be on the album to begin with.

“We didn’t get the call to write for the movie or anything, we didn’t even know,” Miranda Lambert confides in The Hollywood Reporter. “We actually just wrote the song… kind of begged our way through. T-Bone loved it and produced our song. We’re so proud.”

“We were so inspired by the book and the story that it told,” Ashley Monroe reveals. “We wrote the song and forced our way onto the soundtrack.”

All three ladies – Miranda, Ashley, and Angaleena Presley – are huge fans of the books. Other superfans of the series might recognize the title of their song on the soundtrack, “Run Daddy Run,” as a phrase from the books.

“Angaleena had read The Hunger Games and talked me and Miranda into reading it, and we all fell in love with it,” Ashley says. “We all could relate to it in different ways. Angaleena was a coal miner’s daughter, Miranda is a bow hunter, as Katniss was, and my dad died at an early age; I kind of took care of my mom.”

The trio has nothing but praise for the books, and it’s obvious it’s near and dear to their hearts.

“I’m so proud to be a part of this project. This project has created so many new readers — Literacy abounds, I love it!” gushes Angaleena.

“She’s a nerd,” Miranda teases.
