Ringing in the holiday season with friends, family and yearly traditions are what makes the holidays even sweeter. For Reba McEntire, her best holidays are spent with her son Shelby, watching some of their favorite movies together.

“I’ve got lots of new traditions. Shelby and I, we used to always watch Christmas Vacation on Christmas Eve night. Now we watch Elf and Nacho Libre,” shared the icon during a recent chat with Sounds Like Nashville and other local media. “If you’ve never watched Nacho Libre, you’re probably saying, ‘Why on earth is that a Christmas movie?’ But it’s a lot of fun and we laugh a lot. And the other [traditions] we do… we hang out at home a lot more, and then of course, after Christmas we take off and go on vacation.”

Spending time with her family is always what makes Christmastime more special for the singer, especially looking back on years past.

“My favorite Christmas memory is having Shelby being so excited. He would open gifts and I’d say, ‘Shelby, who’s that from?’ And he’d look and he’d say, ‘Uh, I don’t know.’ He was like three years old. And I’d say, ‘Shelby, that’s from Santa Claus.’ He said, ‘Oh yeah, I forgot. He’s a really good guy,’” she recalled.

She continued, “Watching the excitement with a child opening gifts, that’s the best thing about Christmas. Opening presents. Watching them. That’s so much fun.”

This year, Reba will add another Christmas tradition to her list as she hosts the CMA Country Christmas special for the second year in a row. Tune in Monday, Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. EST to catch the special on ABC.
