The Voice moved on to the its next round of competition this week where contestants went head-to-head in the nerve-wrecking Battle Round.

A quick breakdown of how this round works: Two members of the same team meet with their coach and a mentor, where he or she will assign them a duet to perform. The duo will take the stage and sing their hearts out to vy for their judge’s approval. The head of their team will then choose the winner who will continue on to the next round. The loser of the battle is either sent home, or if lucky, can be stolen by another coach.

Now that we have that cleared up, let’s recap what happened on last night’s intense episode.

Blake Shelton brought in Bette Midler to help advise his team last week. His dueling members were 57-year-old pop singer Dan Shafer and country performer Sundance Head who took the stage for a rocking rendition of Bad Company’s “Feel Like Making Love.”

Both men brought their A-game, resulting in a tough decision by Shelton. Shafer demanded the stage and owned his space, using every inch to engage the crowd. Sundance stayed back, rocking on the guitar, perfectly executing every note with vocals drenched in emotion. The two put on a heck of a show, prompting judge Miley Cyrus to literally rock out through out their entire performance.

After a tough decision, Shelton ultimately decided to keep Head and send Shafer home.

Former child country star Billy Gilman went up against Andrew DeMuro, both a part of Team Adam Levine, where the two performed Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror.” The contestants were evenly matched, and all judge’s recognized Levine had a tough decision to make.

“I’m always choosing people who I think can win this thing, so I have to go with that,” Levine spoke before making his choice.

Levine decided to continue on with Gilman.

The second night of battles broadcasts tonight at 8 PM ET on NBC.
