Another week, another round of The Voice. Starting this week, contestants began to compete in the next series of eliminations, the knockout round.

In this round, contestants of the same team go up against one another to compete for their coach’s approval. Each performer is given the chance to sing solo a song of their choosing, followed by their competing teammate. At the conclusion of both performances, their respective judge chooses the winner to continue onto the next round, the live shows.

This season, The Voice tapped into the talent and knowledge of country super couple Tim McGraw and Faith Hill to help mentor the contestants. Both stars lent their expertise to every hopeful who walked on stage and offered them their helpful advice.

First up on Monday’s broadcast were two of Blake Shelton’s country singers, Josh Gallagher and Sundance Head. Gallagher took the stage strapped with just his voice and an acoustic guitar, by suggestion of Hill, to sing the Miley Cyrus original, “The Climb.” His performance was vocally on point while he delivered his endearing musical plea to continue onto the next round.

Gallagher sauntered to the microphone and performed a rendition of Brooks and Dunn’s “My Maria.” His performance seemed effortless as his lyrics and guitar playing were so fluidly streamed together.

After watching both contestants, Shelton recognized his tough decision. After a long deliberation, Head was chosen as the winner and for a short second, it looked like Gallagher was headed home.

That was until Coach Adam Levine swooped in to steal him from Team Shelton.

No fellow country stars performed on Monday night’s airing, but team Shelton did gain a new member. Chicago-native Jason Warrior went up against crooner Riley Elmore, both members of Levine’s squad. In a close call, Elmore was declared a winner.

But Warrior’s emotional performance captured Shelton’s attention and he snagged him up.

“You can win this thing man,” Shelton assertively stated. “There’s no one that does that much emotion in their performances.”

Knockouts will continue Tuesday night (Oct. 25) at 8 PM ET on NBC.
