For Martina McBride, hearing her latest single “Reckless” was like love at first listen.

Penned by Sarah Buxton, Zach Crowell and Heather Morgan, the track was one that reminded McBride of her early 20s, when she was just trying to make it as a singer.

“It reminded me of a time in my life, I was barely 20 years old. I was a kid really,” she told Sounds Like Nashville. “I was living on my own and I was kind of rebellious, headstrong and I was singing in clubs five nights a week until three in the morning. I was waiting tables and bartending and just doing whatever it took to make ends meet.”

It was around that time that McBride met her future husband (and partner in recklessness), John.

“It was kind of, um, not a great scene for a 20-year-old to be in. I was around a lot of older people and clubs and … so John came along, at that time, I met my husband. And he was just what I needed, you know? He just saw me, who I was. He kind of reached in and lifted me up and he was reckless enough to love me unconditionally.”

“Reckless” is the lead single and title track from McBride’s upcoming 13th studio album, due out April 29. See what else the powerhouse told us about the song and the music video.
