Lady Antebellum has been a staple in the country music scene for almost an entire decade. But in celebration of the upcoming ACM Awards, this week we’re taking you back to the time that Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood were presented with their very first ACM trophy.

In 2008, fresh off their self-titled debut album and top 5 single, “Love Don’t Live Here,” Lady Antebellum had all the makings for super-stardom. And to top their early success off, the trio took home very first prize at that year’s 43rd ACM Awards for New Vocal Group of the Year. Little Big Town, who claimed the same victory the year prior, announced the trio’s win and welcomed them on stage to claim their award.

“Does this mean we get to hang out with Kenny Chesney now?” Kelley said with a laugh. “We want to thank everybody at country radio and the whole country community for embracing us so early.”

As a brand new group, Lady A couldn’t have been more shocked or thankful for the recognition.

“We want to thank God and family for their support,” Scott chimed in. “We are so humbled by this.”

Lady Antebellum proved their worthiness of the award for continuing on to win seven more ACM trophies throughout the years in addition to being nominated for Vocal Group of the Year at this year’s 52nd annual show. The group will also take the stage at this year to presumably perform their new single, “You Look Good.”

The 52nd Annual ACM Awards will broadcast live on April 2nd at 8 PM ET on CBS.
