Rory Feek Remembers Joey on the First Anniversary of her Death

Singer/songwriter Rory Feek took to social media on Saturday (March 4) to remember his late wife, Joey Feek, on the first anniversary of her death.

In a sequence of three photos posted to Instagram, Feek paid tribute to his wife through the simple, yet meaningful captions. The first photo, which was captioned “remembering you,” showed Joey sitting on a porch swing with Rory’s daughters, Heidi and Hopie, and their daughter, Indiana.

The second photo, captioned “missing you,” was of Joey’s gravesite in the backyard of their farm, and the third photo was a sepia-colored image of the couple captioned, “loving you.”

…missing you.

Joey died on March 4, 2016 at the age of 40 following a lengthy battle with stage IV cervical cancer. Throughout her battle with the disease, Rory shared updates with fans through his blog, This Life I Live. Her passion for life and love for her family and God inspired millions across the U.S. and beyond.

After Joey’s death, her story lived on through a movie, entitled To Joey with Love, which hit select theaters last fall and is available on DVD now.

Earlier this month, Rory accepted the GRAMMY award for Best Roots Gospel Album for the couple’s 2016 Hymns album. He got emotional while accepting the honor and explained why the win meant so much.

“My wife’s dream was to make a hymns album,” Feek stated from the stage. “So she sang her vocals in hotel rooms while she did chemo and radiation.”

He also recalled something she told him before her untimely death. “Remember, if we win, I’ll know before you will,” she said.

This Life I Live: One Man’s Extraordinary, Ordinary Life and the Woman Who Changed It Forever, Rory’s autobiography, is available now.
