Runaway June Feels the Love from Carrie Underwood

“To have someone we look up to that much, and she’s that big of a star, recognize us and just tweet our lyrics, it was incredible," Naomi Cooke told Sounds Like Nashville during a recent interview.

It’s not the norm to have someone like Carrie Underwood tweet the lyrics to your current country single, but Runaway June got to live that dream just a few weeks ago.

Without any warning or plan, the ladies of the country trio received the exciting news that Underwood showed them some love via the social media site over their track, “Lipstick.” As anyone would, the girls all freaked out to know that someone like Underwood was rooting for them.

“It was shocking for us because Carrie’s been abundantly above and beyond kind and supportive,” Naomi Cooke told Sounds Like Nashville during a recent interview. “To have someone we look up to that much, and she’s that big of a star, recognize us and just tweet our lyrics, it was incredible! We were just freaking out. We’re like, ‘Holy crap!’ And then she sent us gifts for Christmas and she’s been so supportive. I mean, so supportive. It was incredible. She didn’t have to do any of that. She just did it for no reason. We’re not like friends of hers or anything, so it’s just awesome.”

Standing up for the female platform in country music, Runaway June previously rocked the stage with Underwood in her all-girl performance during last year’s CMA Awards. After having the opportunity to get to know the “Church Bells” singer during rehearsal, the women of Runaway June would never forget her kind energy toward them no matter how much their career blows up.

“She had us play with her at the CMA Awards this past year. For her single, ‘Dirty Laundry,’ she wanted to have an all-girl band. We got the call and at that point, we had never met her. So when we got that call that I guess she had heard our song and asked us to do it, it was just like a dream come true,” explained the trio’s Hannah Mulholland. “It was completely out of the blue and just the coolest, craziest experience. We got to meet her first and she was so kind to us. And to have that be our first time ever being at the CMAs in that format on such a stage and it’s Carrie’s performance and she’s hosting…and she made us feel so comfortable and she was so sweet to us. She’s been a big supporter of us, it’s really sweet,”

Fans can find “Lipstick” climbing up the country radio charts now.
