Russell Dickerson Didn’t Expect Wedding Invitations When Writing ‘Yours’

It wasn't the plan to create a song for that special day, but Dickerson is happy with the adoring response "Yours" has gained from brides and grooms all around.

Russell Dickerson is beginning to hear wedding bells, but not because he’s the one suiting up to marry the love of his life (he already did that!).

The country newcomer released his debut single, “Yours,” to an incredible response between new listeners and old fans alike. With a hopeless romantic message painted throughout every emotional lyric Dickerson wrote about his wife, it sparked the minds of couples from all around enough to get them to make it their ‘special song.’

Some fans even went so far as to tell Dickerson that they’ve selected his single as the first dance song at a number of their weddings. Flattered and honored to be a part of their big day in a sentimental way, Dickerson reciprocates the love right back to those who find “Yours” as one of the greatest country love songs.

“I mean I have gotten more invites to more weddings than I could go to in three lifetimes,” Dickerson told Sounds Like Nashville with a laugh. “But that’s amazing because that was never our plan it was never like, ‘Wedding songs stay around forever, we should write a wedding song.’ We were just writing a true, honest love song and it’s connecting on such a deep level that people.”

Going to even greater lengths, Dickerson isn’t opposed to showing up randomly at one couple’s celebration and playing a little live acoustic version of the track in order to make the day more memorable than they could have ever dreamed.

“People reach out through the website and they’re like, ‘Hey, this is our wedding day,’ and we try to as much as we can, but weddings are on the weekend and we have tour,” he said. “I like to make as many as I can happen but it’s always fun to see their face when we surprise them.”

“Yours” is currently available to purchase at digital music retailers and can be added to any Spotify playlist now.
