With that smooth voice and guitar shredding that could make a grown man cry, how could Russell Dickerson not look up to someone like Keith Urban as a musician?

Dickerson has been working his magic on the country music industry with the romantic release of his single, “Yours,” last year. Landing a spot on the lineup for Thomas Rhett’s Home Team Tour earlier this year, it looked like the newcomer had everything all laid out for him. But nevertheless, Dickerson still continued to admire the likes of his first musical hero, who happens to be Urban.

“I’ve been a huge fan of his music since Golden Road and ‘Somebody Like You’ came out when I was in high school,” Dickerson said to Country Aircheck. “I thought, ‘I want to make music that makes people feel something different than the last 150 songs they’ve listened to on the radio.”

Although Dickerson opened his ears up to other music while growing up, like the Dixie Chicks and Michael Jackson, he always goes back to Urban’s ability to reinvent himself while still remaining authentic in his sound. Dickerson desires to replicate the same energy that Urban puts forth into his performing and creating of music, and plans to keep being a fan of Urban’s for as long as he can.

“I would watch his energy and how it gives the crowd energy, thinking, ‘I want that.’ He’s obviously playing for thousands of people, but even if I’m in a club with 200 people, I want the same experience,” he said.

With all of the adoration Dickerson gives to Urban, maybe one day he will get to fulfill a dream by playing on the same stage as the musician he watched for years and years.
